The suicidal mortality rate in Korea has been increased rapidly since the economic crisis in 1997. In this study, we have attempted to investigate the suicidal prevention strategy of England(Scotland), Japan, and Australia on the aspects of the promotion principle, the major target of population, the contents, and the promotion system. Our findings suggest that these countries recognized the necessity for suicide prevention earlier and developed suicide prevention systems suitable for their socioeconomic characteristics and suicidal features. They established the systems through the national policy and cooperation, which is considered to be very important for the success of the work. The existing suicide prevention organizations in Korea have many advantages, and the central and local governments need to cooperate with them. We suggest that a suicide prevention organization should be founded in which policymakers, private organizations, and specialists of psychiatry, medical management and so on, and the central government should establish suicide prevention strategies and the consistent community suicide prevention systems suitable for its own community which are need to be continuously evaluated and improved. And we suggest that these systems will work on the basis of the support of law and budget.
